Week 4 Math 10 – Finding the Missing Angle of a Right Triangle
What does climate change data say?
Aaron Evans, Ethan Little
-To what extent has the climate changed?
The global average temperature has increased by approximately 1℃ since 1850. The graph shows how the average global temperature change with the base line being the average global temp from 1961-1990.
-Is there a connection between temperature and CO2 levels?
The increase of CO2 in the atmosphere correlates with an increase in the average global temperature. The graph below shows the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. The other graph shows the average temperature annually and both graphs follow similar patterns.
-Is there a connection between population increase and CO2 levels?
As the global population increases the CO2 levels also seem to increase. Both graphics show the rapid increase of CO2/population at around the 1950s-1960s. There seems to be a connection as both seem to increase at around the same time. The graph below shows the population increase per region, the other graph shows the increase of CO2 emissions per region. Both graphs follow a similar pattern.
-What are some of the impacts of climate change?
A large problem that is displacing large amounts of people is flooding. As the climate increases glacial ice melts increasing water levels. Many island countries are affected the most as they tend to be barely above sea level. Even Italy is affected as Venice undergoes flooding. Climate change also promotes more intense storms and natural disasters.
-Based on the data, what should we do to lower CO2 emissions?
As the graph below shows, we should invest in more renewable electricity and heat production methods as it is one of the largest contributors to CO2 emissions. As people shift to more renewable energy sources electric cars are beginning to make more sense for reducing CO2 emissions, in addition to new battery technologies being researched.
-See the Climate Causes below, which ones do you have control over?
We have control over our CO2 output and can reduce it through different methods. Renewable energy sources are promising technologies that in the future will help reduce CO2 output and thus climate.
-In what ways does Climate Change become an issue of class?
Usually, the higher class creates the most CO2 as they have more purchasing power and many goods create CO2 as they’re produced. They are also less likely to be affected by climate change as they usually don’t rely on farming output and flooding. Also many wealthy business owners prioritize profit over the environment. Many Island countries consist of people that would be considered lower class and they are some of the most affected by flooding.
The Effect of the Holocaust on Individuals: Positive or Negative?
What I would Improve:
- I need to elaborate more.
- I need to re-read my essays as I had unfinished sentences.
What I did well:
- Did my works cited correctly.
- My thesis was solid.
Canada First Nations Reconciliation
The Mountie in the photo represents Canada and the Mountie can be seen lowering food into a hole which houses a First Nations, beside the hole is a ladder showing Canada could help lift the First Nations out of despair but instead they continue to help the First Nations minimally. The food is there to show how Canada gives enough to keep the First Nations going but not enough to give them equal opportunities.
The photo is supposed to foster reconciliation since a step for reconciliation is acknowledging the problem.
The femininity or masculinity of a childhood movie
Clip shows toaster sacrificing himself to avoid Rob getting crushed to death.
Choose a character from a favourite childhood movie and explain how that character portrays masculinity or femininity. (positively? Negatively? What do they do or say? Can you find a clip to show us?) :
The Brave Little Toaster is a masculine and feminine movie. A group of appliances go off on a journey to get to their old owner but along the way, they learn to work together and counter problems they face. Although the goal of finding their owner at all costs is masculine, them working together and getting to know each other better is feminine. At the end of the movie, the toaster sacrifices himself in order to save his owner from being brutally mutilated which would be masculine. In conclusion, this film had a balance of masculinity and femininity but the entire movie was based on the goal of finding their owner which would be masculine.

Community Connections Interview of Mr. Schoenhals
1.Why are you passionate about your job?
“I love working with students and media. Students have such a passion for it – it’s easy to share in that passion.”
2.What obstacles have you faced to get where you are today?
“It took a while to get into the teacher college. I kept trying to get into SFU; they have a really small program. I finally applied at UBC and got in.”
3.What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?
“Get started! We need great teachers! 😊 Don’t just focus on your education, life experience is important. Travel is a great way to educate yourself.”
4.Would you be open to further contact from Riverside students and if so, how can someone contact you?
“Absolutely.”
5.What education did you need to get your job?
“Working with media I continue to get further education. I just finished a course on creating an RPG 3D game and also finished a course on game character development in Blender. I love to learn so I don`t mind. Learning is fun!”
6.What were your previous jobs?
“Lots of things: painter, forklift driver, video store clerk, cashier, tiler, etc. My best job is the one I have now!”
What I learned from this interview and these questions is that even if you do one thing you can pursue other career/jobs in the future. I also learned it’s good to have a job you enjoy, are passionate about and to keep looking for different jobs if you are unhappy with your current situation. The part where Mr. Schoenhals mentioned traveling and how it is a good way to educate yourself was also interesting as I haven’t heard it mentioned a lot. When he said “Don’t just focus on your education” was also important as sometimes it can be easy to over-work yourself.
This interview was engaging as i’m currently interested in things related to Media Design (The subject Mr. Schoenhals teaches). Seeing how he got into this career/subject helped me better understand what I might do in the future.

Try to find practical questions
Find a good way to present the information
Convey the information well.
- Execute
We created a Prezi and entered all of the information from our Google Docs.
- Examine
We all did an equal amount of work in terms of amount of questions. All of us helped to create the Prezi and get the information.
- Dream
We thought of the different questions we might be able to ask about the material.
- Define
We found questions that would help our understanding of how the material affect the environment and the material itself.
- Discover
We researched the questions:
What elements are in polycarbonate?
What type of compound is polycarbonate?
How do you acquire polycarbonate?
How long does it take for it to decompose in a landfill?
Is Polycarbonate toxic?
What are the uses of polycarbonate?
What are the attributes of polycarbonate?
How does polycarbonate compared to other plastics?
What happens when you burn polycarbonate?
- Deliver
We delivered and displayed the information on a Prezi. We included summaries of the information.
- Debrief
We made sure all of our presentation was presentable and the information was there. We came together to finish the project.
