Week 6 Math 10 – Collecting Like Terms

When combing like terms the exponent never changes only the coefficient. when combining variables it must be the same variable and it must have the same exponent, if they do have the same variable and same exponent the coefficients add together. When combining constants add the numbers together.

Week 2 Math 10 – Scientific Notation

Scientific notation is used to shorten large numbers. The format for scientific notation is x * 10^z. The x is a number under 10 such as 1.029 or 8.293. The ^z is the number of decimal places to the right if its a positive exponent or the number of decimal places to the left if its a negative exponent. Below is an example of how to use scientific notation.

Week 1 Math 10 – Finding GCF

I recently learned how to find the GCF (Greatest Common Factor) of two numbers. The GCF is the highest integer that divides into the two numbers. In order to find it, you need to first find the prime factors of the two numbers, then compare the two groups of prime numbers and look for pairs as illustrated below. Take one number from each pair and multiply it with the other numbers you take from the pairs, the product is the GCF.
